BLACK Rhythm & Blues is a maternal cardiovascular health initiative addressing the elevated risk of postpartum heart complications among Black and BIPOC birthing people. We promote early detection, home monitoring, and culturally relevant education from pregnancy through 12 months postpartum.
Postpartum care does not end at six weeks. Your heart matters after birth.

What Is BLACK Rhythm & Blues?
BLACK Rhythm & Blues is a prevention-focused maternal heart health education initiative designed to reduce preventable postpartum cardiovascular complications. We center Black maternal health equity by supporting families with education, practical tools, and community-based pathways to care.

What Is BLACK Rhythm & Blues?

Early Detection & Screening
Community-based screenings and education that reinforce early recognition of risk factors and warning signs.
Hypertensive Disorders Education
Practical education on preeclampsia, postpartum hypertension, and when symptoms require urgent medical attention.


Postpartum Cardiomyopathy Awareness
Awareness-building around postpartum cardiomyopathy and other cardiac warning signs that can be missed or minimized.
Referral & Care Navigation
Support connecting families to primary care and cardiology, including encouragement for postpartum follow-up.
