About

This course provides insight into addressing problems, such as (a) how to reduce disparities in exclusive breastfeeding rates associated with race/ethnicity and income; (b) how to develop best practices for management and support of exclusive breastfeeding for this population through evidence-based findings, subsequently leading to improved strategies that could result in higher breastfeeding rates and have a major impact on public health. Learning Objectives: By the end of the presentation participants will be able to: 1) Articulate and identify structural barriers that are perceived as racist and contribute to the underutilization of lactation services. 2) Identify strategies to mitigate race-based inequalities against lactating patients during care. 3) Discuss contributing healthcare stigmas and discrimination related to race and ethnicity via practical application of learning using case study examples and identify strategies to incorporate into clinical practice.
