Our Research:
Headed by PI (principal investigator) Natashia Conner, Ph.D. candidate, a doctoral student at Walden University. The title of this study is Factors Within Birthing Centers that Impede Exclusive Breastfeeding among Black Mothers: A Basic Qualitative Approach. This research study to help bring insight into your experience with the perception of racism or discriminatory practices in the health care setting where your child was delivered and how these experiences factored into your decision to initiate exclusive breastfeeding, how exclusive breastfeeding is supported and viewed by those around you, and what hospital policies and practices were in place that may have affected your decisions to breastfeed.

We are currently seeking highly motivated and conscientious individuals to assist with a rigorous research project. This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a graduate or medical/nursing/public health school. Individuals majoring in public health, nursing, health education & promotion, other health relater field, as well as post-baccalaureate students, are encouraged to apply.

Duties May Include:

Recruiting, screening, tracking, and retention of study participants

Scheduling/facilitating study visits with participants, including obtaining informed consent and adhering to all human subjects research regulations

Administration of the study protocol

Participate in all aspects of data collection and management, including entry, verification, and analysis
Qualifications:
-
In the process of obtaining or possessing a BA/BS degree in a health-related field
-
(preferred) Possess a minimum of 6 months- 1 year of prior research experience, preferably including breastfeeding, lactation
-
Ability to communicate with individuals of varying educational and social backgrounds about potentially sensitive issues.

Knowledge of and experience with advertising and marketing.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

Must be highly organized and detail-oriented

Familiarity with breastfeeding, lactation health

Ability to commit at least 10-16 hours per week for 1 year

U.S. Citizenship required
