Black Breastfeeding Advocacy & Community Awareness
B.R.E.A.S.T 4 Babes, Inc. aims to strengthen breastfeeding inequity awareness and disparities among Black/African Americans through media advocacy. Health advocacy is “the processes by which the actions of individuals or groups attempt to bring about social and/or organizational change on behalf of a particular health goal, program, interest, or population” (Galer-Unti, Tappe, & Lachenmayr, 2004).
Advocacy is key in building and maintaining occupational health programs and is essential to shaping the social and political climate (WHO, -n.d.). Below is a list of three health advocacy priorities that might be most important for health education. These priorities were selected because they are paramount and close health disparity gaps about social determinants of health. By addressing things such as health care policies, practice, health literacy, and other factors, a substantial impact may be achieved that contributes to optimal health.

1. Promote health equity policies, programs, and practices that address health, social, economic, environmental, and other factors that improve health

2. Promote policies that increase health literacy

3. Seek opportunities for third-party reimbursement for professionally trained health educators
